摘要
Skincare and protection with natural ingredients is an important demand which is rapidly increasing. This study aimed at to prepare hydrogel-based natural sources derivative from clove buds, flax seed mucilage extract, carboxymethyl cellulose and cross-linked with citric acid to be used as a skin mask. The total phenolics and flavonoid compounds of clove buds and their antioxidant activities were determined. Additionally, clove buds were extracted via different solvents including absolute ethanol, 70% ethanol and distilled water. The mechanical properties of the hydrogel as well as the swelling properties were evaluated. Moreover, the hydrogel physicochemical properties were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that the clove bud extract (CBE) was wealthy with phenolic and flavonoid compounds and exhibited antioxidant activity when measured by DPPH scavenging ability as well as ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). Moreover, the prepared hydrogels observed different variations of behaviors toward water uptake and the sample containing 0.05% of citric acid was selected as a good sample for clove buds addition according to mechanical and water uptake properties. Additionally, the film containing clove bud extract(CBE) returns a nice cytocompatibility and antimicrobial activity. Moreover, the films containing mucilage, and citric acid (CA) observed antimicrobial activity. Wherever the film contains the above formulation together showed excellent broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. Herein, this hydrogel formula is supposed to use as a skin mask.
