Configuring an Off-Grid Hybrid Renewable Energy System in the Arctic Zone

In this paper, the procedure for evaluating various configurations of the renewable energy supply system is carried out. We used high temporal resolution weather data to calculate actual energy output, storage, and consumption by the load. For the village of Meinypilgyno (Chukotka), the optimal characteristics of the equipment were selected to provide electricity to the permafrost monitoring system supposed to have a constant load. The main criteria for selecting configurations were power supply reliability and outage duration, the cost taking into account the life cycle. In this way, the configuration of power supply equipment for any region could be made using the relevant weather data. This would give the possibility to achieve maximum system performance at the lowest cost. A significant difference is shown in the obtained results using high temporal resolution meteorological (our method) and climatic data (traditional method).
