Numerical Analysis of Electric Field Interactions Associated with DNA Hybridization in A Microfluidic Device

The detection technologies based on specific hybridization of nucleic acids, integrated with microfluidic platforms, represent advanced bioanalysis methods for detecting pathogens, contaminants, or various biomolecules. The ability to manipulate and control minimal quantities of samples along a detection platform represents a technical issue in the current development of DNA biochips. The design of these devices requires theoretical and numerical models for the analysis of the flow in a microchannel and the kinetics of heterogeneous hybridization. This paper presents practical information on designing a microfluidic device to study electric field interactions with DNA hybridization.
