Experimental study of particle-laden turbulent reacting flow in a swirl combustor

A test facility for the swirl combustor with staged air injection was set up. The particle-laden turbulent reacting flow was experimentally studied in this facility. The gas and particle instantaneous velocities in the swirl combustor were measured by using the Three-Dimension Particle Dynamic Analyzer (PDA) under two different conditions. The distributions of time-averaged axial and tangential velocities, root mean square of axial and tangential fluctuating velocities, and correlation moments of axial-tangential fluctuating velocities are obtained for both gas and particle phases. The results contain also the distribution of particle mean diameter. The gas and particle fluctuating velocity characteristics exhibit obvious differences compared to their time-averaged velocities.
