Baicalein ameliorates Alzheimer's disease via orchestration of CX3CR1/NF-κB pathway in a triple transgenic mouse model

•The potential therapeutic effect of baicalein on AD was evaluated using 3 × Tg-AD mice as animal model.•Baicalein promoted the polarization of microglia from M1 type to M2 type in 3 × Tg-AD mice.•The phenotypic transformation of activated microglia in the brain of 3 × Tg-AD mice is related to CX3CR1/NF-κB signaling pathway.•Baicalein regulates M2 polarization of microglia in 3 × Tg-AD mice by inhibiting CX3CR1/NF-κB signaling pathway.•Inhibition of CX3CR1/NF-κB signaling is beneficial in alleviating AD pathology in 10-month-old 3 × Tg-AD mice.
