Etiological analysis of 119 cases of small intestinal bleeding

Objective: To retrospectively analyze 119 patients diagnosed with small intestinal bleeding by enteroscopy, and to explore the relationship between hemoglobin, fibrinogen, albumin, and fibrinogen/albumin ratio and the etiology of small intestinal bleeding through the etiology and clinical characteristics of small intestinal bleeding.Methods: The clinical data of 119 patients with small bowel bleeding who presented to the Air Force Characteristic Medical Center from January 2015 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, and the causes, lesion location and hemoglobin, albumin, fibrinogen, and fibrinogen/albumin ratio were discussed respectively.Results: The etiology of small intestinal bleeding was mainly small intestinal diverticulum in 40.33% (48/119), followed by inflammatory lesions in 22.69% (27/119), benign and malignant tumors in 20.17% (24/119) and vascular lesions in 16.81% (20/119). The lesions of 119 patients collected were ileum (73 cases), jejunum (31 cases), duodenum (13 cases), and small intestine (2 cases). Among the 119 patients, 76 were male and 43 were female, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.77:1. The average age was (44.42 +/- 19.091) years old, and the age range was between 15 and 83 years old. There were differences in disease types and gender (X2=7.925, P=0.048); there were significant differences in disease types in different age groups (X2=35.884, P=0.001). No correlation was found between hemoglobin and disease type (F= 6.20, P =0.102). plasma fibrinogen was correlated with disease type (F=3.268, P=0.017). no correlation was found between albumin and disease type (F=1.820, P=0.151). the plasma fibrinogen/albumin ratio was associated with the type of disease (F=16.90, P=0.001).Conclusion: The main etiology of small intestinal bleeding is small intestinal diverticulum, followed by inflammatory lesions. Both ge and gender differed in the type of disease associated with small bowel bleeding. Both fibrinogen and plasma fibrinogen/ albumin ratio were correlated with disease type.
