Distribution of Mechanical Stress around the Pores of Track Membranes under Tension

Interaction between full-scale mechanical stress near tightly spaced pores of track membranes is modeled numerically using the COMSOL Multiphysics program. Full-scale tests of polyimide films with two holes are performed that include visualizing stress with an optical polariztion microscope. Analysis of films with two holes shows the considerable effect their orientation has on the strength of the specimen.
