Application of a Prefabricated Wooden-Based System for Collective Buildings in a Four-Storey Portuguese Building

By using wood, a renewable, carbon sink material with excellent thermal properties in association with the prefabrication process and its benefits, a constructive system for up to five-storey buildings based on prefabricated wooden panels was developed. It was designed, evaluated and optimised in structural, functional and logistical terms based on strategies for designing wooden structures, as well as the applicable regulations, species and products, sector prefabrication technologies and transport conditions of the Portuguese context. In this work, the constructive system is applied to a real building project aiming for its structural validation. Through a case study developed in partnership with the company PORTILAME – Engenharia e Madeira, Lda. – the structural behaviour of the components of the panels for a four-storey building is evaluated using RFEM and Calculatis software.
