One-Droplet Synthesis of Polysaccharide/Metal-Organic Framework Aerogels for Gas Adsorption

A one-droplet synthesis strategy was proposed for facile synthesis of polysaccharide/MOF aerogels. The reaction in one droplet was that the metal ions initiated the cross-linking of polysaccharide molecules and coordinated with organic ligands to form MOFs simultaneously. SEM, XRD, N-2 adsorption-desorption, and TGA analysis suggested that the composite aerogel contained uniform MOF crystals immobilized inside the aerogel mesh, presenting a hierarchical porous structure. The composite aerogel has high adsorption capacity toward CO2. This work provides a facile route with a definite mechanism for synthesis of functional polysaccharide/MOF aerogels.
