Low-noise Photonic Signal Synthesis for Mm-Wave Radar

Low-noise microwave and millimeter-wave oscillators are important for widespread applications in communications, security, metrology, and remote sensing. Here, we demonstrate the utility of narrow linewidth Brillouin and external cavity lasers for millimeter-wave signal generation beyond 100 GHz, as a basis for photonics-enhanced atmospheric radar measurements.
