MR safety considerations for MRI-guided radiotherapy

MR safety remains one of the key challenges and concerns in the clinical implementation of MR-guided radiotherapy. Although MR safety practice guidelines have been well established for diagnostic settings, there are many RT-specific requirements that are beyond the scope of diagnostic applications, which necessitate tailoring or further development of these guidelines for RT-specific applications. This chapter provides an overview of MR safety with discussions on specific requirements and challenges associated with MR safety in the radiation therapy environment. Strategies and techniques for developing an MR safety program tailored to radiation therapy are presented.
