ESPRIT-enhanced Method for DOA Estimation with Acoustic Vector Sensor Array

This paper discusses the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation by using an acoustic vector sensor array, and proposes an Estimating Signal Parameters via Rational Invariant Technique (ESPRIT) enhanced method which can improve the DOA estimation performance. Specifically, by exploiting the rotation invariance of the received signals, the initial DOA estimates can be obtained using the ESPRIT method. Then, by performing Taylor expansion and total least squares methods on the initial estimates, the offsets can be compensated and fine estimates can be obtained. Simulation results show that the proposed method can successfully estimate the DOA using an acoustic vector sensor array and can achieve better estimation performance than the traditional ESPRIT method.
