Plasmonic and Optical Confinement
Nanoscopy and Nanospectroscopy(2023)
摘要
Electromagnetic interaction with the free electron of metal forms the foundation of plasmonic. The last two decades have witnessed enormous progress in various fields of plasmonic in both theoretical and experimental arenas. Numerous components based on plasmonic have been achieved in terms of real-life application, and different next-generation instrumentations are speculated. The current chapter describes a fundamental understanding of the origin of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) which is further categorized as localized and propagating plasmon. A strong electromagnetic field arises due to plasmonic confinement, and its subsequent decay processes are described mostly as non-radiative processes causing hot electrons to be generated. At the end of the chapter, various applications related to plasmonics, such as plasmonic-based sensors, photocatalysis, photovoltaic cells, and photothermal therapy, are categorically discussed, where the hot electrons play an important role.
