Combating crises

This insight begins by providing observations on the environmental implications of post-pandemic economic recoveries. Research puts a spotlight on the connections between the environment and the COVID-19 crisis, particularly the intertwined links between Mother Nature and the virus. Concerns are raised about the effects, both positive and negative, of the crisis on the planet. In order to achieve a substantial change towards sustainability, both monitoring mechanisms of economic stimulus programmes and accounting practices need to change. The insight offers accounting practitioners possibilities to take a step forward and develop new understandings of social and environmental value more consistent with ecological principles and sustainable development.
