Skin colonization with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus; Sa) contributes to the development of atopic dermatitis (AD). AD is associated with low filaggrin (FLG) expression in the skin due to genetic mutations and inflammation. We hypothesized that in the context of low FLG, colonizing Sa strains may have distinct gene patterns.
