摘要
Black cumin seed oil (BCSO) is from the plant Nigella sativa seed (Habat-ul-Sauda); the family Ranunculaceae has been widely used in medicinal plants globally. It is widely used in folk medicine, such as Unani and Tibb-e-Nabawi, Ayurveda, and Siddha. BCSO has a long history of using folklore in many medication and dietary systems supplements. It is considered one of the most effective healing medicine forms in Muslim culture. Therefore, it has been recognized to be used regularly in Tibb-e-Nabawi (Prophetic Medicine). Thus, it is extensively recommended for treating hypertension, liver disease, digestive disorders, diuretics, antidiarrheal, antimicrobial, appetite stimulant, analgesics, and skin disorders. Due to its miraculous healing power, the BCSO has been recognized as among the most effective herbal medications based on scientific evidence. Thymoquinone extracted from BCSO is considered the main bioactive compound responsible for therapeutic properties. Thus, the current book chapter aims to provide a complete review of published research in nutritional, therapeutic, and pharmaceutical applications of BCSO.
