Capnography is a rapid and noninvasive method of continuously monitoring the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) in exhaled gases, and it has become an important tool to aid clinical diagnosis of respiratory status. In this chapter, different studies carried out on capnogram waveform and various signal processing techniques for the analysis of capnogram are discussed. The main goal in this chapter is to quantify the state of the capnogram during the presence and absence of asthma. In other words, numerous features of the capnogram that can be used to differentiate between asthma and nonasthma conditions are described. Those features can be used to design a robust automatic algorithm to detect asthma and nonasthmatic conditions.
