Stress response under some selected herbicides and heavy metal ions over different strains of cyanobacteria

In this experiment, the effect of some selected photodynamic herbicides and heavy metal ions on some selected species of cyanobacteria and recorded their response under stress conditions in the form of antioxidant activity and photosynthetic action in comparison with control. Under various stress conditions, these cyanobacterial species activate various defense mechanisms to overcome the stress and protect themselves. Photosynthetic activities were also recorded under some selected herbicides and heavy metal ions. Cyanobacteria has two photosystems i.e. photosystem I and photosystem II which are directly affected under stress conditions as most of the photodynamic herbicides and pesticides divert flow of electrons towards them inhibiting photosynthesis. This experiment reveals that they have own defense mechanisms to protect them.
