Promoting Professional Fulfillment for Advanced Practice Providers

SummaryThe U.S. health care system is increasingly dependent on the advanced practice provider (APP) workforce. The role of APPs is expanding, given their ability to provide safe, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care. Promoting APP professional fulfillment is critical for APP retention and for health care organizations to be able to maintain a vibrant APP workforce. In this article, the authors describe how Stanford Health Care, a large academic health care system, used a holistic strategy and leveraged findings of an APP Wellness Survey to design, develop, and execute systems-level interventions to increase professional fulfillment, decrease burnout, and reduce turnover among its APP workforce.
