AedG, a new weapon inAcinetobacter’sfight against antibiotics

AbstractA novel multidrug efflux pump, AdeG from the Drug:H+antiporter 2 family was discovered inAcinetobactermultiresistance plasmids. Here, we profiled the antimicrobial resistance potential and examined the distribution of this gene. Putative homologs of this novel efflux pump were found in manyAcinetobacterspecies and other Gram-negative species. The pump conferred resistance to at least eight diverse antimicrobials. These results show that the novel pump is a new determinant in theAcinetobacterresistance arsenal.
