Information capsules and their role in summarizing medical information: a case study (Preprint)

BACKGROUND Information capsules are new kinds of abstracting methods that purposefully summarize studies. OBJECTIVE . METHODS As a case study, this article had two main purposes: A) Glancing at the models that used information capsule format. B) Proposing a pre-defined format for writing an information capsule. For this purpose, a total review was done of websites and applications that provide up-to-date medical information. RESULTS The results were shown that there are 5 cases in the world that have summarized medical information in information capsule formats such as ACP Journal Club, NEJM Journal Watch, Medscape, MDLinx, and MedicalUpdateOnline. CONCLUSIONS There was no clear and definitive standard for how to write an information capsule. They were mainly in the form of paragraphs and text, and depending on the goals of the team preparation could be personalized and get different features and sections. This is while observing the synopsis and simplifying the speech was the main condition in this process. Therefore a pre-defined structure for producing an information capsule was presented that can be used in different scopes.
