摘要
This chapter discusses the attractive elements in optoelectronics and photonics with respect to passive elements based on metal oxide (MO) materials. To date, MO-based elements have demonstrated an outstanding capability in electronic applications. The bottleneck for silicon (Si)-based materials is due to their subtle responsivity in the large spectrum, which limits their applications in the latest optoelectronic and optic technologies. Hence, MOs are an interesting alternative in the optoelectronic industry. MO-based elements have gained popularity due to their flexibility to be tuned structurally while modulating the applications’ optical and electrical properties. This chapter focuses on using MO-based elements in passive optoelectronics such as optical filters, polarizers, antireflective and high-reflective coatings, light photodetectors, photochromic devices, optical waveguides and modulators, splitters, and connectors and couplers.
