摘要
The amount and types of water pollutants have been accelerated every decade due to rapid urbanization, industrialization, and population growth. These pollutants deteriorate human health and are disastrous to the environment even at trace levels. The remediation of these pollutants particularly in water is challenging, as these compounds are difficult to be removed efficiently using conventional water treatment technologies due to their non-biodegradable behavior. Therefore, strengthening green technology is required to develop sustainable blueprints in water remediation technologies. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been applied in a range of fields due to their remarkable design flexibility, porosity, and tunability. Unlike other porous materials, MOFs structure contains high surface area. Thus, MOFs are a suitable candidate as absorbents for water remediation purposes. This chapter highlights an understanding of the behavior of MOFs to adsorb various pollutants in the aqueous environment including design and approach strategies, sustainability, mechanism, and challenges. Therefore, it may provide a future direction in synthesizing new green and sustainable MOFs-based adsorbents as environmental treatment technology that effectively remediates the pollutants in water.
