CdSe/CdS luminescent colloidal nanoparticles were directly synthesized in water – ethanol medium, using cadmium acetate and sodium selenosulfate as precursors. The combination of water and ethanol helps reduce the use of harmful chemicals and reduce the preparation cost compared to previous CdSe nanoparticle synthesis methods, but can still ensure the generation of the surface defects, thus providing good performance and luminescence stability of the nanoparticles. The optical properties of the CdSe/CdS shell core structure depend on the CdS shell thickness, which was influenced by the material – encapsulation proportion and the environmental pH in the encapsulation process.
