•Reciprocating machinery signal is noisy, non-linearity and non-stationary.•MEEMD-SqueezeNet loses valid information and has more parameters.•Improved MEEMD uses SVD denoising for signals larger than the threshold.•Improved SqueezeNet using InFire module has less parameters.•Improved MEEMD-SqueezeNet has lower training time and higher accuracy.
