Modelling and simulation of landfill methane model

•Development of a model for landfill gas estimation.•Model is based on first order decomposition rate equation for quantifying methane emissions.•Methane emission model with microsoft excel interface is developed.•Developed model compared with other existing models and monte carlo simulation done for predicting uncertainty.•Developed model can accommodate both the developed and developing countries landfill methane recovery potential.
