摘要
•Multifunctional CO2-responsive supramolecular complex (I-R6G/U-PEG) was developed.•I-R6G and U-PEG spontaneously co-assemble into nanoparticles in aqueous solution.•Nanoparticles undergo enhance selective uptake by cancer cells in CO2-rich media.•CO2-responsive I-R6G/U-PEG nanoparticles induce massive apoptosis in cancer cells.•This new system holds great potential for safer, more effective chemotherapy.
