摘要

•Microwave-driven methane pyrolysis produces semi graphitic and pure solid carbon.•SEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, and thermogravimetric analysis have been used to characterize the carbon.•Potential applications of the solid carbon were explored in steelmaking, graphene production, batteries, and sequestration.
