•Nanofiber/nanonet (NF/NN) membrane effectively improves the filtration efficiency.•MOF grown mesh substrate shows excellent VOC adsorption and high air permeability.•NF/NN membrane also exhibits colorimetric response to the small amounts of NH3 gas.
