摘要

•Pitting corrosion of austenitic and duplex stainless steels was investigated.•The two duplex grades: 1.4662 and 1.4462 (PREN 33–35) experienced pitting attack.•Corresponding austenitic grade 1.4539 (PREN 34) was not attacked during 28 days.•Ferrite in grade 1.4662 and austenite in grade 1.4462 were preferentially attacked.•Roles of phase compositions and species in the electrolyte were clarified.
