•Hydatid disease is endemic in the Mediterranean region, eastern Europe and South America usually affecting the liver.•Hives may be a presentation of Hydatid disease.•CT scan detects liver and concomitant para-rectal hydatid cysts.•Indirect Hemaglutination Assay is used as Serologic evaluation of hydatid disease.•Albendazole is a standard treatment prior to laparoscopic resection.
