Catalyzed oxidation of IG-110 nuclear graphite by simulated fission products Ag and Pd nanoparticles

•Ag and Pd nanoparticles were added to IG-110 nuclear graphite.•The oxidation of virgin IG-110 and IG-110 with Ag and Pd were investigated.•A furnace-mass spectrometer-CO analyzer system was used for oxidation studies.•Ag and Pd efficiently catalyzed the oxidation of IG-110 in distinct way.•Activation energies for the oxidation of IG-110 to CO and CO2 were measured.
