Temporal variability of a soundscape near a mid-oceanic atoll in the northern Indian ocean

•Temporal variability found in biophonic and geophonic components of a shallow water coral reef soundscape in a region heavily influenced by monsoon winds.•Low frequency biophonic choruses peak in inter-monsoon months, while low frequency geophonic sound peaks during monsoon months.•Dusk, midnight, and night choruses are identified across different spectral frequencies.•The choruses showed site-wise variability and correlation with sea surface salinity, chlorophyll-a, and wind speed.•Low frequency geophony correlated with high wind speed in the southwest (summer) monsoons.
