•F can enhance the catalytic performance of FeO in dielectric discharge plasma for chloramphenicol degradation.•Anti-bonding activation effect is the key for the plasma/catalysis process.•H2O2 and O3 undergo a dissociated adsorption on F dope FeO catalyst due to the anti-bonding activation.•F dope FeO induced a non-Fenton catalytic pathway of H2O2 in dielectric discharge plasma.
