Evaluation of the effect of different culture systems on photomixotrophic capacity during in vitro multiplication of pitahaya (Hylocereus undatus)

•The Ebb-and-Flow and RITA bioreactors increased chlorophyll, carotene, and PEP content.•The Ebb-and-Flow and RITA bioreactors had a photomixotrophic effect during in vitro multiplication of pitahaya.•A high survival percentage was obtained without rooting stage.•Temporary immersion systems are an alternative for in vitro large-scale propagation of pitahaya.
