Global, regional, and national trends in mesothelioma burden from 1990 to 2019 and the predictions for the next two decades

•Mesothelioma burden has reduced globally over 30 years despite variations at the regional and national levels.•Mesothelioma burden downtrend is anticipated to continue globally.•Mesothelioma burden dropped significantly in high and high-middle SDI regions over 30 years.•Mesothelioma burden increased visibly in low-middle SDI regions.•There was a rapidly increased risk in incidence and mortality of mesothelioma between 50 and 80 years old in all SDI regions.
