•Novel electrocatalytic membrane (ECM) system was developed for antibiotics removal.•Defect and hierarchical pore of MOF imparted ECM with superior antibiotics removal.•Antibiotics degradation and self-cleaning mechanisms of membrane were proposed.•Application of ECM in reclamation of simulated municipal wastewater was explored.
