摘要
We propose a gas microchannel plate (GMCP) as the gas electron multiplier in micropattern gas detectors (MPGDs), which can tackle gain instability caused by the charging-up effect. According to the results obtained of GMCP detectors operated with different gas mixtures, their performance is comparable with conventional MPGD. The gain stability and charging-up effects of different types of GMCPs were investigated herein. GMCP without hydrogen reduction demonstrates a charging-up effect similar to a traditional GEM, and its gain varies with time and counting rate. GMCP with hydrogen reduction has a bulk resistance in the order of GΩ, and there is no obvious charging-up effect while the detector is in operation. The gain stability of detectors stays within 5% under different conditions such as working time, gas, and counting rate.
