Myocardial functions by 3D speckle tracking echocardiography in pediatric acute kidney injury patients undergoing peritoneal versus hemodialysis

•Acute kidney injury (AKI) can cause myocardial dysfunction via uremic toxins and via volume overload•Our study is the first to compare the impact of two modalities of dialysis in the context of AKI on myocardial functions•Our study demonstrates that hemodialysis in AKI accelerates myocardial damage•This might be via rapid relief of volume load in HD leading to damage of endothelial and myocardial glycocalyx.
