The effects of reward and frustration on the task performance of autistic children and adolescents

•An affective Posner task was used to assess the effects of rewards and frustration.•Task performance was analyzed for autistic and typically developing participants.•Social and non-social rewards improved the task performance of autistic children.•Frustration decreased the performance of both groups, but more of autistic children.
