Insights into a T-type micromixer with novel electromagnetic mixing

•A novel T-type electromagnetic micromixer with spherical mixing chamber is proposed.•The effects of the inlet velocity, the applied voltage, the magnetic flux density, the magnet diameter, the distance between the magnet and the microchannel on mixing are discussed.•The flow state of the fluid in the microchannel is described.•A potential method for active fluid mixing in a rapid and flexible way on microfluidic chip is provided.
