First record of Ulva torta (Mertens) Trevisan 1842 (Chlorophyta: Ulvaceae) in the province of Cadiz, Spain

The presence of the Chlorophyta Ulva torta (Mertens) Trevisan is reported for the first time in the province of Cadiz, southern Spain. The seaweed was found in autumn 2020, thriving on soft intertidal shores of earthen ponds in a salina (La Esperanza, Puerto Real). The identification of the species was carried out by morphological and molecular techniques using the plastid encoded rbcL gene sequences. The biological material has been placed in the herbarium of the University of Malaga (sheet MGC-Phyc 5497).
