Chromogranin B in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for approximately half of the heart failure patients and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. More fundamental knowledge about this heterogeneous disease and the underlying pathomechanisms is needed in order to find effective therapeutic targets, as they are still lacking. Previously, we found that Chromogranin B is expressed in ventricular cardiomyocytes and shapes cytosolic calcium transients via the inositol 1,4,5-trisphophate receptor (IP3R) with impact on brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) gene transcription.
