Suicide attempt, temerary behaviors and negligences in self-care for university students

Objective: To analyze the relationships of the suicide attempt with reckless behaviors and negligence in self-care in university students. Suicidal behaviors have had a progressive increase in recent years and it is one of the main causes of death in young people, it is a multi-determined phenomenon and its understanding from the different behaviors of young people, especially university students, becomes relevant. Materials and methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive, correlational and inferential study. Undergraduate university students in Colombia participated, with a universe of 1,218,816 people and a sample of 2,237. The statistical correlation between suicide attempts, reckless behaviors and negligence in self-care in university students in Colombia was explored in order to confirm, specify or discard this hypothesis. Results: The results show a statistically significant association between the variables: Suicide attempt and reckless behaviors and between reckless behaviors and negligence in self-care. Conclusions: The study suggests continuing to explore these relationships to build predictive models of suicidal behaviors, suicide attempts and completed suicide, these are behaviors that are part of the broader field of self-destructive behaviors.
