Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks: Simple Selective and Regiodivergent Quinoline Hydrogenation

A methodology for a regiodivergent hydrogenation of quinolinesis reported using broadly available and commercial supported rutheniumcatalysts. cis- or trans-Decahydroquinolinesare obtained in high yield and high diastereoselectivity by simplevariation of the catalyst and/or reaction temperature. Heterogeneous ruthenium catalysts arereported for a practicalregiodivergent hydrogenation of quinolines.
