Characterization of academic burnout in the peruvian univer- sity context during the covid-19 pandemic

The objective of this research was to characterize the academic burnout of undergraduate university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The approach was quantitative, the design was non-experimental and the type was cross-sectional descriptive. The sample was made up of 262 students of the professional careers of Administration, Accounting and Law of a private university in the city of Puerto Maldonado (Peru) to whom the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey Ques-tionnaire (MBI-SS) was applied, an instrument with adequate levels of validity and reliability. According to the results, the students were characterized by presenting moderate levels of academic burnout, and in terms of their dimensions, they showed moderate levels of emotional exhaustion and aca-demic efficacy while they had low levels of cynicism. On the other hand, it was determined that the levels of academic burnout were significantly associated with some sociodemo-graphic variables such as gender, age group and employ-ment status (p<0.05). By virtue of the above, it is necessary to design preventive and corrective programs so that stu-dents develop a series of protective factors that allow them to successfully face stressful situations inherent to university life and the current health emergency context.
