The effect of ZnO on the structural and radiation shielding properties in borophosphate glasses

•PnmB and BnmP structures of ZBP glasses were investigated by Raman and NMR spectra.•The relationship between the Tg and the structure of ZBP glasses was studied.•The radiation shielding properties were improved with the addition of ZnO.•The ZBP glass can replace ordinary concrete as radiation shielding materials.•Transparent material can be used as high energy radiation shielding.
