•We directly compare various meat alternatives regarding attitude-influencing factors.•Younger age, urbanity and familiarity are positive predictors for all types.•Some effects diverge especially for plant-based vs. insect-based and cultured meat.•Vegetarians appear to perceive cultured meat as good alternative for others.
