Evaluation of ceramic passive samplers using a mixed-mode strong cation-exchange sorbent to monitor polar contaminants in river water

•CPSs are deployed with mixed-mode Oasis MCX sorbent as retention phase.•CPSs were calibrated for a group of therapeutic and illicit drugs and metabolites.•Stability and calibration were performed using different waters, with no differences.•Deployment of CPSs during 9 days in river water enabled contaminant determination.•Some of the compounds were found at ng/L in river water.
