Expansion Planning Algorithm for Optimal Allocation of Energy Resources in Interconnected Multi-Energy Cells

The cellular approach of multi-energy systems has gained attention due to its promising features to tackle the challenges in future energy systems. Moreover, the interconnection between different cells shall also have a major influence in dealing with the challenges. In this regard, the necessity of an expansion planning algorithm for interconnected multi-energy cells arises. Hence, in this paper, a novel expansion planning algorithm for the optimal allocation of energy resources in an interconnected multi-energy cell is proposed. The planning algorithm minimises the cost (CAPEX + OPEX) objective function of a city with a hypothetical scenario in the near future. The multi-energy cells are determined based on their electrical, thermal, and gas generation-consumntion characteristics.
